HE
CHOSE THE NAILS--PART III
SERMON
TITLE: A NEW GARMENT A NEW LIFE
SERMON
THEME: COME INTO MY PRESENCE
INTRODUCTION: JESUS EXCHANGED A ROBE OF SEAMLESS
PERFECTION FOR A ROBE OF INDIGNITY.
GALATIANS
3:26-29
26 So in
Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into
Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There
is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and
female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If
you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and
heirs according to the promise.
·
JESUS BORE THE CLOTHING OF MY SIN AND
YOUR SIN ON THE CROSS.
I PETER
2:24
24 “He himself bore our
sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and
live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
I) JESUS OFFERS YOU
HIS ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
·
THE ROMAN SOLDIERS
TOOK HIS CLOTHES AND DIVIDED THEM.
JOHN
19:23-24
23 When the soldiers
crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for
each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven
in one piece from top to bottom.
24 “Let’s not tear it,” they
said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”
This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that
said,
“They divided my clothes
among them
and cast
lots for my garment.”[a]
So this is what the soldiers did.
·
JESUS WAS NOT ONLY
SHAMED BEFORE PEOPLE, HE WAS SHAMED
BEFORE HEAVEN.
I PETER
3:18
18 For Christ also suffered
once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to
God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.
II) JESUS OFFERS
YOU HIS ROBE OF ACCESS.
EPHESIANS
2:17-18
17 He came
and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were
near. 18 For through
him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
·
THERE IS NOTHING
THAT REMAINS BETWEEN YOU AND GOD BUT AN OPEN DOOR.
HEBREWS 10:19-20
19 Therefore,
brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy
Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by
a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his
body,
·
THE FLESH OF JESUS WAS TORN
ON THE CROSS JUST AS THE CURTAIN WAS TORN
BETWEEN YOU AND GOD.
III) JESUS OFFERS
YOU HIS ROBE OF PRESENCE.
·
WE KNOW GOD IS GOOD AND WE ARE NOT,
AND WE FEEL FAR FROM GOD.
I
TIMOTHY 2:5-6
5 For
there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man
Christ Jesus, 6 who
gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed
to at the proper time.
·
GOD HAS REMOVED
THE BARRIER OF SIN THAT SEPARATES US FROM
GOD, BUT SOMETIMES WE CHOSE TO PUT THE BARRIER BACK
UP.
·
GOD IS NOT ANGRY WITH YOU. HE HAS ALREADY DEALT WITH YOUR MISTAKES .
HEBREWS
4:16
16 Let us then
approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may
receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
IN GOD'S PRESENCE YOU FIND
1) PERSONAL REVIVAL
2) ABUNDENT FORGIVENESS
3) FOCUSED PURPOSE
ISAIAH
6:8
8 Then I heard the
voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for
us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
CONCLUSION: THE CURTAIN IS DOWN,
THE DOOR IS OPEN, AND GOD INVITES YOU IN.
I JOHN
4:16
16 And so
we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in
them.
