Sermon Title:
In 2023, Be a Quitter
Therefore,
since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off
everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us
run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the
pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the
cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the
throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2
Introduction:
QUITTING is sometimes a GOOD thing.
I.
Quit HURTFUL,
HARMFUL HABITS
1
Corinthians 6:19-20
Do you
not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you,
whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a
price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.
II.
Quit MAKING
EXCUSES
Exodus
3 and 4
III.
Quit being NEGATIVE
and PESSIMISTIC
Philippians
4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in
every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your
requests to God.
2
Corinthians 12:10
That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in
weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in
difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
IV.
Quit thinking you
can CONTROL everything
John 24:7
Jesus replied, “You do not
realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
Matthew
6:34
Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for
tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
V.
Quit COMPARING
yourself to OTHERS
Galatians
6:4-5
Each one
should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves
alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, 5 for each one should carry their own load.
VI.
Quit being COMFORTABLE
1
Chronicles 28:20
David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong
and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for
the Lord God,
my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the
work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished.
Luke 5:4
When he had finished speaking, he said to
Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for
a catch.”
Conclusion:
QUIT something worth QUITTING.
