PRAYING DANGEROUS PRAYERS --PART I
SERMON TITLE: MAKE ME BOLD GOD
SERMON THEME: THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
SERMON TEXT:  ACTS 4:13
13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

HOW MANY OF US HONESTLY BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF                                  PRAYER?

THEORY: EVEN THOUGH YOU LOVE AND HONOR GOD, YOU PROBABLY DO NOT FEEL LIKE YOU ARE GOOD AT PRAYING.

I JOHN 5:14-15
14 This is the [remarkable degree of] confidence which we [as believers are entitled to] have before Him: that if we ask anything according to His will, [that is, consistent with His plan and purpose] He hears us. 15 And if we know [for a fact, as indeed we do] that He hears and listens to us in whatever we ask, we [also] know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted to us] the requests which we have asked from Him.

I) THE PROBLEM: OUR PRAYER LIFE IS TOO SAFE AND BORING.

MATTHEW 6:7
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

ACTS 10:9-12
About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds.

ACTS 10:13-15
13 Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”
14 “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”
15 The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”
THE GREEK WORD FOR ORDINARY IS THE WORD IDIOTES

ACTS 10:16-22
16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.
17 While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate. 18 They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.
19 While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three[a] men are looking for you. 20 So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”
21 Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”
22 The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.”

II) HOW AMAZED ARE PEOPLE AT YOUR BOLDNESS?

ACTS 10:29
29 So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?

ACTS 10:30-31
30 Cornelius answered: “Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me 31 and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor.

AFTER THE PRAYER

III) BOLDNESS IS NOT A PERSONALITY TRAIT, IT IS THE WORK OF THE HOLY
       SPIRIT.

ROMANS 8:26
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

PETER AND JOHN CONTINUED TO PREACH WITH GREAT BOLDNESS.

ACTS 5:18-21
18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. 19 But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. 20 “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”
21 At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people.
When the high priest and his associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles.

THREE ATTRIBUTES OF BOLDNESS

1) BOLDNESS WILL BRING  SPIRITUAL OPPOSITION. VERSE 18

2) BOLDNESS WILL BRING GOD'S MIRACLES  VERSE 19

3) BOLDNESS WILL REQUIRE FAITH  VERSE 20-21

CONCLUSION:  YOU AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT GOD MIGHT SET INTO MOTION WHEN WE OFFER A SINGLE ACT OF BOLD OBEDIENCE.

II TIMOTHY  1:7
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
