THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD--PART VI

SERMON TITLE: DO YOU KNOW GOD CARES?

SERMON THEME: GOD IS ALL SEEING

INTRODUCTION: THE NAMES FOR GOD IN THE BIBLE TEACH US WHO HE IS, ABOUT HIS CHARACTER AND HOW HE RELATES TO EACH OF US .

HEBREWS 4:13

13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

·         WHAT COMES TO YOUR MIND WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT GOD ALWAYS SEEING, AND ALWAYS WATCHING? BECAUSE HOW YOU RESPOND TO GOD SEEING YOU IS GOING TO REVEAL A LOT ABOUT HOW YOU SEE GOD.

GENESIS 16:3-6

So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. He slept with Hagar, and she conceived. When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. Then Sarai said to Abram, “You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my slave in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the Lord judge between you and me.” “Your slave is in your hands,” Abram said. “Do with her whatever you think best.” Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her.

HAGAR SEES GOD, LET US SEE HOW GOD DEALT WITH HAGAR

I) GOD GAVE HAGAR A TIME TO PAUSE

GENESIS 16:7-8

The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered.

·         HAGAR WAS CONFUSED BECAUSE SHE ONLY HAD A PARTIAL VIEW.

ISAIAH 55:9

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

·         IT IS IN TIMES LIKE THESE THAT IT WOULD DO A LOT OF GOOD TO JUST SIT DOWN AND TAKE A PAUSE SO WE MIGHT UNDERSTAND WHAT WE SHOULD DO NEXT.

II) GOD GAVE HAGAR A TIME TO LISTEN.

GENESIS 16:9-11

Then the angel of the Lord told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” 10 The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.” 11 The angel of the Lord also said to her: You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery.

·         BECAUSE OF FEAR AND PAIN HAGAR FORGOT ABOUT THE GOODNESS OF GOD.

PSALM 37:7-10

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.
For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.

10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.

·         TOO OFTEN WE JUST FORGET TO START, AND STOP AND LISTEN TO THE GOD WHO SEES US.

III) GOD GAVE HAGAR A TIME TO REMEMBER SHE WAS NOT ALONE.

GENESIS 16:12-14

12 He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.” 13 She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen[b] the One who sees me.” 14 That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered.

·         HAGAR REALIZED THAT GOD WAS NOT FAR AWAY, GOD IS NOT UNKNOWABLE, GOD IS PERSONAL, AND GOD IS CARING.

JOHN14:16

16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—

·         SEEK TO KNOW THE GOD WHO SEES YOU.

IV) GOD GAVE HAGAR A PLAN FOR HER LIFE.

GENESIS 16:15-16

15 So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne. 16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.

·         UNDERSTANDING AND FOLLOWING GOD'S PLAN FOR OUR LIVES AVOIDS A GREAT DEAL OF UNNECESSARY SUFFERING AND PAIN.

·

JEREMIAH 29:11

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

·         REST IN THE FACT THAT OUR GOD IS ABLE TO TAKE YOUR PAIN AND SUFFERING TURN IT INTO SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL.

CONCLUSION: JESUS HAS SENT US HIS HOLY SPIRIT TO GIVE US HOPE, ENCOURAGEMENT, COURAGE AND PEACE.

12) JOHN 16:33

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
