WHAT IS THE CHURCH AND WHO IS THE CHURCH?--PART VII
SERMON TITLE: FAITH IS PERSONAL BUT IT IS NOT PRIVATE
SERMON THEME: THE CHURCH HAS A MESSAGE FOR ALL PEOPLE.
SERMON TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:25

THE FIRST CENTURY CHURCH FACED PERSECUTION BUT THEY NEVER WONDERED: WHERE WAS GOD?

ACTS 28:25-30
25 They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors when he said through Isaiah the prophet:
26 “‘Go to this people and say,
“You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
    you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.”
27 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
    they hardly hear with their ears,
    and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
    hear with their ears,
    understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.
28 “Therefore I want you to know that God’s salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!” [29]  30 For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him.

EPHESIANS 4:25
25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

EPHESIANS 4:1-6
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

I) WHAT HAS GOD CALLED YOU TO?

            A) GOD CALLS YOU TO SALVATION.

EPHESIANS 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

            B) GOD CALLS YOU TO SANCTIFICATION.

ACTS 26: 17-18
17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’
            C) GOD CALLS YOU TO SERVICE.

COLOSSIANS 3:17
17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

II) TWO CHARACTERISTICS OF YOUR CALLING.

A)  YOUR CALLING WILL COST!

ACTS 9:15-16
15 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”

II CORINTHIANS 6:3-4
We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses;

B) YOUR CALLING WILL SUSTAIN!

II CORINTHIANS 6:9-10
known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; 10 sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

PHILIPPIANS 3:13-14
13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.

1) SERVING JESUS IS A GIFT AND A GRIND.

2) LIVING YOUR CALL IS A THRILL AND A BURDEN

3) MINISTRY IS EXHILARATING AND EXHAUSTING

ROMANS 11:29
 for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.

CONCLUSION: YOU ARE CHOSEN AND YOU ARE GIFTED AND YOU ARE CALLED   SO STAND WITH BOLDNESS AND RECLAIM YOUR CALL.

II THESSALONIANS 1:11-12
11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
